I REALLY love this video, like a LOT!

rather then a direct review of lunatic, i instead would like to open a discussion about the 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳-𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘱 of ability car stunting and the current ideological stance that old-generation car stunting innately has become an uninspired, outdated branch of car adjacent stunting in the grand theft auto five stunting community.
judgement of an original stunt is built up of four fundamental components: originality , creativity , appearance and difficulty. while each of these components inevitably intertwine, my analysis of old-generation car stunting is a lack of all four of those key components, and i'll now elaborate on each one.
- originality is what i deem most important in a stunt, this includes the location , the vehicle , the runup , the bumps and the landing. an intrinsic issue with old-gen car stunting, readily apparent in lunatic is the lack of originality to the core of each element. in lunatic every spot is an evolution of the past by a hundred meters or a rehash of an idea but just executed with a car, missing out on everything listed.
- creativity is the second runner for importance to a stunt, umbrellaing concepts such as the uniqueness of the spot , uniqueness of the vehicle and 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 the ways the stunt reaches beyond the box of what is expected. reaching beyond a decade of old-generation ability car stunting it is almost comical the sample size narrowed into stunts that aren't confined to a hill ramp to precision/building landing, compared to the percentage that are. and even more hilarious if you incorporate stunts landed with the truffade adder or the z-type.
- appearance is the third and most subjective element of a stunt. appearance encompasses vehicle choice , spectacle , viewing retention , readability contrasted with the environment and least notable the weather/time. appearance while not an inveterate cognitive factor plays a large mental role in the appreciation and the memorability of a stunt. while editing contributes a factor for this analysis right now it is being disregarded to later. ability car stunting intrinsically lacks majority of these points, further accentuated by the limitations of old-gen consoles that makes its car stunts all comparable to pc motorbike long glide stunts.
- difficulty is the final component that grades a stunt, most simply it is the total sum of each element of a stunts difficulty combined into an undefined grade. personally i would deem difficulty the least sufficient tool for the analysis-tic analysis of grading stunts, playing no major factor besides the appreciation for the time spent on the spot, rather than a palpable measurement of the stunt itself propelled even more concretely with the introduction of breakboosting that lamed any semblance of getting speed equating to a challenging skill.
while breakboosting has pushed the medium against the glass ceiling, to paint a distinction between the last-generation vs the current landscape of ability car stunting its natural to contrast the poster boy, blaze against the current lineup of pc stunters he falls short of. being critical of those four key components really highlights the two dimensionality of old-gen car stunting and beyond becomes an identifier of stunts i'd deem objectively mediocre or worse, and that "𝘰𝘭𝘥-𝘨𝘦𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘦𝘵" is so ingrained from the lack of possibility that it is even possible to coin blazes pc montage "buried" as such. this consistent trend of car stunting lends a large part to why the kaara series by masaboy was so instantly loved as the trilogy nails all four of the key components which is inherently lacking in every previous car stunting endeavour of the past decade. and the technicality that many pc stunters introduced to car stunting, from and built off the eleven teamtage by evolve stunting has proven the 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳-𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘱 the old-generation car stunting mindset has succum to.
it would make sense to share some insight on the lunatic video outside of just the stunting. while at the time of release it was hailed as the greatest montage, and obviously the highest form of car stunting, the shift in climate has been very unkind to the legend status this video once was bestowed. the editing harkens back to a classic sa/vc/iii style that while not noteworthy in any regard does a solid job communicating the tone and being in harmonic balance with the music, although while done well the recalling of previous styles does box itself into the same old thinking the stunts were also approached with leading to an overall depreciation of the project. the biggest gripes in lunatic instead stem from the length of the video, consisting of a 4 minute intro in which a minute is an unbearable flashing black and white sequence and that spends each shot revealing many of the landings in the video before they even happen. a simple cutting of repeat stunts such as maze bank arena ramp or the inferior YSC clips would've made repeat viewings of this video less of a chore then it is in reality.
in summary lunatic is the ideal example of how the standards of stunting has systemically shifted out of favor for the 𝘰𝘭𝘥-𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 mindset from both the editing, music and most significantly the stunting towards a structure that values in order; originality , creativity , appearance and difficulty instead of the difficulty , originality , scale and lastly the creativity of a stunt.
this review is open to a discussion and debate in the comments, where i'm happy to elaborate on the points above if you have rivaling opinions.

Review #1 - Epitaph by Aqua and PR3V1OUS
Part 1 Stunts:
Opener Crank 4x: 4.5/5 - Extremely clean stunt, some better BMX clips later in the video though.
Bump to Double Thread to Tree Precision: 5/5 - Best stunt of Part 1, still amazes me to this day. Insanely good combo!
Bump to Triple Grind (Town Hall): 4.5/5 - Unique area to do a grind combo in, really like how it just keeps going after the staircase boost.
Bump to Grind to Peg to Grind: 4.5/5 - Another cool location, that peg in between the two grinds is nuts.
Roof Bumps to Parking Garage Double Grind: 4/5 - Neat little spot
Moto Freestyle #1: 4/5 - The reverse technique and the trash bin precision made this stunt, grinds a little unclean but I like how this screams BMX in moto form.
5x Bump to Precision: 3/5 - This stunt doesn't do a whole ton for me besides the precision that you landed, and even then, you didn't land top :( I think some of the bumps on the huge silos were visually cool.
Vinewood BMX Combo: 4/5 - Iconic location of course, fairly clean combo as well.
Part 2 Stunts:
BMX Thread/Cog: 5/5 - Very intricate spot and I love it, one of my favorite stunts of the video for sure.
BMX Double Peg: 4/5 - This was cool.
Triple Thread to Trash Bin: 5/5 - Amazing find and concept, one of my favorite stunts of all time. (I hope to make an official list someday)
Curved Grind to Billboard Grind: 5/5 - Following up with an even cooler stunt imo. It's got all the big C's: Creative, Clean, and a CLASSIC.
Haku Peg to Slide to Grind: 5/5 - Oh baby a triple! Genuinely insane 3 stunt run in Part 2. No one ever shows this spot of the map love and I don't understand why. Hakuchou underrated.
Moto 4x Grind: 2.5/5 - My least favorite clip of the video, this just feels like filler, nothing killer.
Thread to Bump to Grind (Paleto Bay): 5/5 - Maybe the last clip being my least favorite was a plus because this is definitely in my top 20 stunts of all time and my personal favorite of the video. Yes, it is only like 6 seconds long but it packs a punch. Very PestyPig esque.
Thrust Grind to Bump to Peg (Paleto Bay): 5/5 - And this very Shadow eque, reminds me of that one stunt in Born Ready 2, but this is way better. the pole bump in between is perfect.
Double Sign Bump to Thread to Double Grind (Vespucci Beach): 5/5- Another insane find and the best stunt hit on that beach period, I don't know if anyone has or will come close.
Moto Freestyle #2: 2.5/5 - I see the vision, unclean execution kinda ruins it though.
Wallride to Bump to Double Grind: 4/5 - Sick spot, just not as interesting to me as other technicals in the video.
Cemetery Thrust Combo: 4.5/5 - I really love the concept of this spot, only little downside that keeps this from being perfect is all the driving, and I know that's out of your control but it just be like that for me.
Finisher Mount Dam Triple Crank: 4/5 - Solid way to end it, definitely feels big, just not as cool as other BMX clips in the vid.
Total Score (Stunts): 89.5/105 - 8.5/10

Editing Review: I don't want to repeat myself in future reviews so I will say this once here; I am not an editor and some times I have no clue what I'm talking about. I have personal preferences on what I believe constitutes a good visual experience for stunt montages, but I always try to keep on open-mind going into every video stunts and edits wise. I might not always have the popular opinion, but that's what makes these kinds of sites fun, getting to see what others think about certain videos and sharing my thoughts on them as well.
With that out of the way here is what I think about PR3V1OUS's edit on Epitaph. The intro is short and sweet, it does very well at setting tone of the video and doesn't overstay its welcome. Really like the angle and effects on the wall during the first stunt. This is where it might get a little controversial, I'm not a huge fan of the rest of the angles after the first clip. Some angles are either too stagnant, or if it's a longer combo stunt, it can feel like angles are just jumbled together with no rhyme or reason. By no means are they the worst angles I've ever seen, they're just uninteresting. That's just how I feel about that portion of the edit and what I think brings it down the most. Going back to some positives, I dig the black and white in the first part, I wouldn't have even minded if it went on for the whole video. I enjoyed all the little cinematics with Aqua's character throughout. A little sequence of the edit I enjoyed was right after that second moto freestyle stunt, creating littles pockets to breathe for some cinematics is always a pleasure to me. Overall, I think this was a good edit, nothing crazy or super creative though.
Editing Score: 3.5/5

Last Thoughts and Final Score:
Stunt wise, this is one of, if not the best releases of 2024 in the V community. Aqua's ability to bridge his BMX knowledge into mainly a moto-heavy video is what's most impressive to me. You have a very good eye for these short technical moto spots, which are my personal favorite type of stunts. PR3V1OUS, while it wasn't my favorite edit ever due to the angles, you still did a solid job in maintaining the somber atmosphere and overall pace of the video. Definitely will be looked as a classic in my books.
I'm feeling a 8/10!

the french idiotic masterclass is an exercise in faux-maximalist theatrics that drowns in Greig Fraser imitation and has thrived off nostalgia for the 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘤 montage. although once you get past the NVE pony and all the warning signs plastered in the video description you are left with a solid, but prosaic mixed bag of fantastic originals, lackluster stunts and a handful of relands.
with the exception of a couple oddities the french idiotic masterclasses assemblage of stunts are inferior takes on bumps from their predecessors that have released as far back as 2022 and uninspired dual stunts from spots dated 2018 and beyond. these sentiments are held mainly for the opener, 2:06 , 2:29 , 3:38 , 5:39 , 7:22 and 8:06. predictably, the stunts i excluded that still checked the boxes where because instead of being inferior, they are nothing more then relands. those are 1:36, 3:53 and 6:56, with the strongest elements of the french idiotic masterclass instead being the few selection of motorbike stunts that innovate on, or landed spots that have been sought throughout the past 10 years which includes my personal favorite of the video; 1:20. likewise, 2:50 , 3:20 , 5:15 and 6:03 are all great stunts, even if the first two bumps used for 6:03 are as cardboard as the editing the video is packaged in.
a major sustain that i avow in the french idiotic masterclass is the absurd banality in which ferox and honor approached this montage with, oozing with pale imitation and larger then life aspirations that swirled into a drab once you look past the 𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘤 façade presented. i could drone onwards about dune comparisons but what is most dissapointing to me is honors insistence on bizzare effects that are complete dissonant drabble, not motifed throughout his section, and not at all present during ferox's reign for the first half of the video. ultimately the lack of cohesion of those elements is what brings it down for me the most, although effects like the camera cracking, or pixel sorted transitions are absolutely clichéd right out of the gate. while i disdain the blatent theft it doesn't go without saying the camera work is fine, the video displays great velocity even if the attached bike shots are redudant quick. my standout shots include 4:32, absolutely stunning. 5:54 and 7:19. a major resultant of my dislike for the french idiotic masterclass gets facilitated by the uninspiring music that soundtracks the video. the extremely unpersonable and obnoxious atmosphere that scores the stunts absolutely ruins the replayability and further spirals down the maximalist daftness that facilitates the editing.
while perhaps impressive in a vaccum, the french idiotic masterclass requires an extreme level of disillusionment from its 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 to reach any level of the greatness associated with the video.
